About the Pangea Quartet

The Pangea Quartet has served as the resident string quartet for the Stony Brook University Contemporary Chamber Players since September 2005. The Quartet has performed numerous works from both the classical and new-music repertoires at the University and throughout the New York area at venues like Baruch College and the Tenri Cultural Institute. It has premiered a number of pieces by student composers and actively seeks commissions. The Pangea Quartet has coached with the Emerson String Quartet, Gil Kalish, Daniel Gilbert, and Eduardo Leandro.

The four members of the Pangea Quartet are well-versed in a wide spectrum of musical styles. They are acclaimed as classical players, and two of the members hold state fiddle championships as well. The members of the Pangea Quartet have performed with musicians as diverse as Kanye West, John Zorn, Edgar Meyer, and Mark O’Connor. They are also committed to education: two of the members have held university teaching positions and have given workshops at schools and festivals throughout North and South America.
